Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture is the main production area for Anno Potatoes. It is said that during World War II, soldier dispatched to Sumatra Island in Idonesia brought back local sweet potatoes to Tanegashima and began cultivating in the Annou area. Sweeter than the sweet potatoes that had been cultivated until now. It is sticky texture quickly became popular and spread all over the island. Taking the name of the area where it was clitivated, the potato came to be called "Annou potato".
Annou potato has a round shape with a rounded apperance. The characteristic of the taste is the high sugar content and sticky creamy texture. Annou potatoes contain more sucrose than other sweet potatoes which is the secret to their rich sweetness
